Pestilential Shadows is a black metal band hailing from Sydney, Australia.
Playing in local black metal bands since 1997, in 2003 Balam decided to form Pestilential Shadows with the goal of creating atmospheric and intense black metal.
The band's first release was a demo titled "The Fate of all that Lives" which was self-released in 2003, Then in 2005, Pestilential Shadows released their debut album "Embrace After Death" through the Australian label, Asphyxiate Records. The album showcased the band's unique blend of Sombre, atmospheric but aggressive black metal.

Following "Embrace After Death", Pestilential Shadows released their second album "Cursed" in 2006. The album was darker and more experimental than its predecessor and featured a more diverse range of instrumentation.
Over the years, Pestilential Shadows has continued to release music that pushes the boundaries of black metal. Their third and fourth albums; "In Memoriam Ill Omen" (2009 - Pulverised Records) & "Depths" (2011 - Seance Records) were an exploration of the darker aspects of the human psyche. These albums featured haunting melodies and atmospheric soundscapes that created an eerie and unsettling atmosphere.
The following album "Ephemeral" (2014 - Seance Records) navigated through an even more experimental and eerie path, spiralling down into further madness.
The album "Revenant" followed in 2019 (Seance Records). The album was a concept album that explored the theme of death and rebirth, followed up by "Devil’s Hammer" which was released in 2024 (Northern Silence - DE) and continued the band's tradition of creating intense and atmospheric black metal.
Pestilential Shadows released "Wretch" in 2025 (Northern Silence - DE/Brilliant Emperor AUS) marking their 22 year of existence, forging the pinnacle of Australian Black Metal.
Throughout their career, Pestilential Shadows has remained true to their vision of creating intense and atmospheric black metal and has continued to experiment with different sounds and instrumentation, pushing the boundaries of the genre and creating a unique sound that is instantly recognisable. The band's music has been described as "otherworldly" and "haunting", and their influence can be felt throughout the black metal scene worldwide.
The line up consists of Balam (Guitar/vocals), Basilysk (Drums), Drekavac (Guitar) & Lithuz (Bass), and are pushing further downwards into despair with further live rituals in 2026.
