BARRIERS is a four-piece act based in Melbourne and Adelaide, Australia.

With members that have a solid background in both hardcore and metal, BARRIERS have endeavoured to create a sound that aims to stand apart without losing its key signature foundations, finding and delivering something unique from the band’s range of influences.

After several months of refining their sound, the band entered the studio to work with lead singer and producer Kyle Bloksgaard to record their debut EP titled ‘Decay’.

Drawing influence from acts such as Gojira, Cult of Luna and Meshuggah, the EP transitions from mid paced crushing grooves, to moments of foreboding doom and bursts of death metal driven intensity. Behind the weight of heaviness lies well placed contrasts of melody and vocal dynamic.

Lyrically the band encompass both personal struggle on songs such as ‘Dissolution’ and ‘Perpetual Curse’ through to socio-political commentary on ‘Servant’ and ‘Endless Rot’. Summarising the band’s approach, Bloksgaard states “We aimed to keep things heavy, raw, minimal, and to feel almost unsettling... we gave ourselves no rules of which genre we wanted to fit into. We just wanted to write music we enjoyed without compromise or category.”
